Windows Installation Assistant

The Windows Installation Assistant is Microsoft's recommended way to install Windows 11 on the PC it runs on. It supports x64 processors only and does not run on Arm-based PCs. Before use, the PC must have a Windows 10/11 license, Windows 10 version 2004 or later, and at least 9 GB of free storage.

Key Features

• Guided installation: After it downloads, the tool must be run as an administrator. It confirms hardware compatibility, displays the license terms, and then installs Windows 11 once the user accepts them.
• Compatibility verification: The tool checks whether the device's hardware is compatible before installation proceeds.
• Restart handling: Once the tool is ready, a restart completes the installation. The PC restarts several times during the process and should not be turned off.

Usability

The workflow consists of a small number of clearly separated steps, with on-screen prompts at each stage. The installation can take a considerable amount of time, so users should plan for interruptions during the process. Bootable USB drives and DVDs are not produced by this assistant; they are created with the separate Windows 11 media creation tool.
